ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The tennis community is coming together to raise money and awareness for those dealing with depression. A local family recently lost their son to suicide, and following the tragedy, the family wanted to honor him by making a difference in Albuquerque by supporting children’s mental health awareness.

The tennis community partnered with Breaking the Silence New Mexico to start the annual event that raises money for classroom education about suicide prevention. “There is a strong need for mental health resources and education, especially in New Mexico. We continue to have one of the highest suicide rates in the nation…and Breaking the Silence New Mexico is able to provide that education statewide,” said Executive Director Ysidra Tellez, Breaking the Silence New Mexico.

The event is called Serve It Up for Life. The tennis tournament will be held on June 29 and deadline to register is Wednesday.
